I just had some amazing news, Apple’s iTunes added the Naked Ambition movie to the “New and Noteworthy” section at the top of the documentary movies page. We are very excited because this drove the movie to be rated #5 in doc rentals and last night it was #88 in all movies rented.  Please invite a friend to download it from iTunes, we are trying to see if as a community, we can get the rating higher. Just recovering from a great bash I had in New York last night. I had the first one person show at the Museum of Sex (MOSEX) with the gallery prints from Naked Ambition. They filled the new upstairs gallery with 50 pieces that are beautifully displayed with text from the book and video clips from the film. I was really, really impressed with the display. It’s nice to see the work in a museum context and not just in a gallery. Here is the invite and some images from the party. Alexandra Silk, her husband Luc Wylder and Candida Royale were there, so we took pictures. I was very proud last night and a little buzzed by the end. Someone put ice in the sake though, that’s was a no no!

He observes in the film that a good still photograph should leave the viewer wanting to know more. “I’m a portrait photographer and I approached the documentation of this sub-culture as doing portraits of the people,” he explained. “I approached it as a sociologist would. I wanted a portrait where you’re looking at people’s eyes and you’re wondering what they’re thinking or there’s a more subtle emotion or there’s something going on that makes you stare into the portrait.”

For some reason, I’ve been knee deep in red-band trailers this week. First it was the new “Borat” trailer, which the MPAA labeled red-band (meaning that it is restricted from being shown in front of youth-oriented films). Now it’s a trailer for “Naked Ambition: An R-rated Look at an X-rated Industry,” a new documentary about the adult film business by Michael Grecco, a prominent celebrity photographer. The film, which opens in L.A. on May 1 at the Laemmle Sunset 5, offers a behind-the-scenes portrait of adult film stars, talking about their work and how they ended up in the business.
